What to bring?
We highly recommend that you bring your dog's regular food, as well as any medications or supplements that your dog has been taking. Changes to the diet can cause stress to the digestive tract and that can make for an unhappy, stressful dog. We want your dog to be stress free! You may bring a bed, toys, and/or something with your scent to help ensure your dog's comfort during his/her stay at Puddleduck.
Bordetella vaccine (Kennel cough Vaccine)
The most common used is the intranasal vaccine containing both parainfluenza and Bordetella. Dogs that are vaccinated can also shed the virus and cause other dogs to become mildly infected and show mild signs. This shedding usually lasts less than 72 hours. In addition, it takes up to 4 days after vaccination for dogs to develop protection. When you combine these facts, you will see why it is strongly recommend that a dog not be given intranasal vaccine within 72 hours of coming into contact with other susceptible dogs. Do not give the vaccine the day before a dog show, boarding, etc. Try to give at least four days before contact with other dogs and preferably 7 days. This way you will protect your dog from becoming infected by other dogs, and protect those dogs from becoming infected by yours.
If you are going to give the Bordetella vaccine, we recommend it be given at least 2 weeks prior to staying at Puddleduck (because is can shed the virus) If your dog is vaccinated with the Bordetella vaccine, 7 days or less prior to boarding at Puddleduck we will not be able to take your dog. Feel free to call Frances is you have any questions.
